Nail care

Healthy nails are not just a matter of aesthetics; they are an essential part of foot care and are important for maintaining healthy feet: unattended nail problems can worsen, cause pain, become infected or even lead to other problems. For example, if your nails become too long or ingrown, it can change your gait, which can then cause pain in both joints and muscles.

Healthy, properly trimmed nails and smooth, flexible skin on your feet also reduce the risk of contracting a variety of foot conditions, from fungal infections to ingrown toenails, and can ultimately improve your quality of life greatly. Foot nail and skin care is therefore essential to prevent and prevent many foot-related problems.

All treatments performed by a podiatrist are performed with medical grade products and a set of sterilized equipment for each client. The sterilization process used by podiatrists eliminates and kills all microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses and spores. We also thoroughly clean your feet with an alcohol solution at the beginning of each appointment.

Our nail care services are generally painless. In fact, many clients leave the appointment feeling much more comfortable than when they arrived.

Ingrown nail

The ingrown toenail is a common problem that occurs when one of the sides of the nail, usually the toenail of the big toe, penetrates the skin causing painful inflammation. If this condition is neglected, the skin on the side of the nail may become infected. This infection can spread to the tissues, and sometimes even to the bone.

The causes of ingrown toenails are numerous: curve of the nail too pronounced, poor cutting of the nail, underlying bone pathology, heredity, etc.

Mycotic nail

Onychomycosis is also known as fungus, fungal infection or mycosis. Its incidence increases with sports activities or trauma. It may also be the result of athlete’s foot that has managed to migrate to the nails. As the condition progresses we may notice detached nails, yellowing and/or thickening of one or more nails. Thickening of the nail, however, is normal as we age. As a side bar, some skin diseases can resemble and cause symptoms very similar to those of a fungus infection. When untreated, it progresses rapidly and can become very resistant.

Trauma

The primary function of a nail is to protect the bone it covers. When a nail undergoes major trauma, a blue or purplish patch (ecchymosis) is formed on part or on the whole nail surface. This build up of blood under the nail can be painful and it is important to get quick consultation in order not to lose the nail. It is strongly advised to have the nail evaluated in order to evaluate the wound or fracture of the underlying bone if any.
